About
Full Name: Tshegofatso K Moyo
Country Represented: Botswana
Tshegofatso shares a story of how she encountered lighting at close proximity, because of an apparent unsolved matter with a witch doctor.
Why did you enter this storytelling contest?
I am a writer and have been writing mostly poems ever since I learned how to read and write. I shared stories using my poetry and I have always wanted to try and do it differently.
A friend of mine shared a link to this competition with me and I saw it as a great opportunity to try something outside my comfort zone. I have a lot of life experiences to share with people and some of them are not fully relayed through the poems I perform and write.
This platform is giving an opportunity to do more.
What does storytelling mean to you?
Storytelling to me is a form of self-expression. It gives me an opportunity to share what is in my heart and mind. Storytelling is also a form of healing. Sometimes I need to share some bad experiences I have had with other people in order to receive the comfort and courage that is needed to heal.
Storytelling is not all about sharing bad experiences, it has given me an opportunity to relive some of my best moments. Through storytelling, one gets to realize that they have common experiences with other people and that just creates room for growth.
Why did you tell this story?
What happened to me is a very rare thing. I have never imagined in a million years that something like that could happen. So I believe it’s worth sharing. It was a moment of complete fear and realizing that could have been fatal makes me more grateful to be alive. I wanted to also share a part of my culture (our beliefs) and to own up to something that could have killed me.

This made me laugh out loud.
I was also struck by lightning indirectly when I was 16 and again three years ago. I will need to go research who I have unfinished business with.
