If our wounds were visible by Xolile Cele

about

Name: Xolile Cele

Country Representing: South Africa

Besides being passionate about storytelling, I want my story to be heard across the continent. It has the potential to inspire and motivate someone who may feel that they are suffering the same fate that I had suffered in my early years. I want to inspire people of all walks of life. Our African words of wisdom were passed from generation to generation through stories. It is from those stories that we learnt to endure pain and become strong, fearless and wise.

I believe an opportunity given by The Ultimate Storyteller Contest is rare, especially for our African people. Hearing our own African stories from the horses mouths’ and archiving them for future generations.

what does storytelling mean to you?

It teaches respect of cultural diversity and the knowledge that as diverse as we are, we are all created in the image of God. It means I will be able to enlighten the mind of the people with knowledge that may shape their future. I believe when you are telling your story no matter how sad or painful it is, you get a sense of being relieved. You no longer become the victim of your past, instead you become victorious.

By sharing my story I may be saving lives of the people who are on the verge of committing suicide. I believe that storytelling allows for many lives to be saved. People will be inspired towards achieving their goals and our country will prosper economically, socially and financially.

I feel it has a valuable lesson especially to the youth. Lessons such as appreciating and respecting people from rural areas. I hope that they may know that from their grandparents, they can find love and teachings that will make them prosper in life. That they may learn to have a fixed bond with their elders and appreciate their culture as well.

  1. Thank you so much for giving my story a platform to be heard around Africa. It will definately have a positive impact in changing people’s lives.
Winning is not a God’s grace but touching people’s lives and saving souls is the best reward I can ever get.

    Thank you
