Why did you enter this storytelling contest?

My partner pitched the idea to me and I thought I should give it a try. It had been a while since I did anything public regarding my poetry and anecdotes so I thou should give it a try.

What does storytelling mean to you?

Storytelling is a way to archive history. It’s this complex technology Africans and all indigenous people from the corners of the world have used to pass on knowledge of self. It’s beautiful how stories change depending on who’s telling the story. Which adds another layer for interrogation as to what the story could mean or the lessons and messages therein.

Why did you tell this story?

I struggled with picking a story to tell but telling this one felt like I was closing a door to a phase of my life. Not closing it out of shame because a lot of things have happened since the occurrences in the story. So you could say this story was an avenue of reflection for me.
